Earlier in the week, I had brought in the terrarium but was still waiting for bearded dragon essentials before bringing Beardie to his new home. As the items started to arrive, Beardies in the classroom environment became ready to house him. Friday was moving day.
Right away, rules were established about screaming and hitting the tank. Beardie was very well received and many kids revisited his home throughout the day to see what he was doing.
We discussed how its natural environment is the desert and why the heat lamps are necessary. The term basking was introduced since the bearded dragon will often lay still under the light. In nature, many reptiles bask under the sun because the sunlight helps it absorb heat and use it for energy.
This discussion was a great way to introduce the different needs of living things.
