"I can't take it out for him," she responded. Things were looking grim for this kid. Apparently, there was a similar incident in the past where a child had to go to the hospital to get it removed. Luckily for this child, all it took was a blocked right nostril, a closed mouth, and a hard blow to shoot this bead out of his nose. Any further up, there would have been a necessary visit to the hospital. Thank goodness we didn't have to resort to that. We had a talk about why we shouldn't put things in our nose, ears, and mouth that doesn't belong there. I asked him if he put it in his nose, he nodded no…I asked if the bead flew into his nose, his head shook yes…. This kid… I'm sure this is a hard lesson learned that he will never forget.
It's like something out of an episode of the Simpsons. A Ralph Wiggum moment. The crayon and finger up his nose, paste eating, English butchering, "special" child in Lisa Simpson's second (I believe) grade class. During the exciting tree house/team building moment I had today, the lead designer of this project was taken out of action by an irritated nose. He was picking his nose and came to me tearing up because of it. I told him to get a tissue to blow his nose. He came back to me but didn't verbalize the problem. I thought it was just a runny nose and he seemed like the spoiled type that would have his parents help him blow his nose. When it was snack time, he sat there eating his snack, still tearing up. I finally realized and asked if he put something up his nose. He nodded yes. Oh jeez, I thought to myself. When I asked to look up, there it was, a bead lodged in his left nostril. I took him to the nurse immediately.
