I am excited to be starting my 3rd teaching! Pre-K has been a blast so far and I expect another great year filled with surprises, joy, appreciation, and sadness. I cannot wait to meet my new group of Pre-Kers and look forward to seeing them make great strides throughout the year.
Our Pre-K class follow a child centered play-based approach to learning. We strongly believe children learn best through play and using their imagination to understand the environment around them. The teacher's role is to observe, take note, and modify the environment to further allow children to explore their interests.
Last year, our students took an interest in the different modes of transportation, community workers, and fairy tales. When there is an opportunity, the teacher's will introduce certain topics and concepts they feel are important and relevant.
Outdoor Play
Outdoor Play is an essential part of the day. Please send your child to school with appropriate outdoor clothing as we will be going out most days as long as weather permits. Our outdoor playground allows students to interact socially, collaborate with other children, and develop gross motor skills.
Rest Time occurs immediately after lunch. It is a time for children to rest their bodies after a long day of learning. Please send a blanket in with your child to keep at school. During long breaks, we will send them back to be washed, please send them back as it does get cold in our classroom.
Snack is between breakfast and lunch. Our students are given 15 minutes to eat a healthy snack. Please send in a healthy snack and water with your child daily since they do get hungry during the day. We have a refrigerator in the classroom to store anything perishable. Please refer to the school handbook about our healthy snack policy. If there are leftovers from breakfast, it will be saved for students who do not have snack.
The communication folder provided will be the main form of communication between the parent and teacher. Please be sure to check your child's folder everyday and send them back to school with it the next day. Important notices that may be time sensitive need immediate responses. If your child will attend after school, please check the folder when they get home.
Homework
Homework will be a simple reading log. We believe it is important to read and converse with your child at home. It will help develop great habits for the upcoming years. If your child has his or her homework done in after school, please take time to talk with them about their day. Homework can be done in any language spoken at home.
