Families spent some time decorating their child's writing journal, a composition notebook that will remain in class for students who wish to work in during center time.
After table toys, the chime rings as a way to get the attention of every child. Mr. Andy explained what to do when the chime rings; stop what you're doing, hands up, eyes on the person who rang the chime, and listen for instructions.
After table toys are cleaned up, it's time for breakfast. Since it is September, a lot of time is dedicated to routine. Everyone must wash their hands before they eat and when we come back from outside. Our children were instructed on the proper way to wash your hands.
Step 1: Get your hands wet
Step 2: Use one pump of soap to lather your hands
Step 3: Rinse your hands clean of soap
Step 4: Dry your hands with paper towel
Step 5: Dispose of the towel in the trash bin
To reinforce this proper hand washing technique. please practice with your child at home.
We moved right into the rug where our students learned of the two main spots; rug spots and circle spots. Our circle spots are used for meetings and greetings, while rug spots are essential for read alouds and easel work. We sat in our circle spots to say hello to all of our new friends and moved into our rug spots for a reading of Mo Willems' Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!
After walking on line in the hallway and outside, it was time to come back and wash our hands once again for lunch. On today's menu, there was pizza with a side of salad and milk. Some students finished early and was welcomed to check out the library.
It was a wonderful first day together. We look forward to what Monday will bring. Monday will be a full day! Arrival will be at 8AM and dismissal at 2:20. Pre-K parents are allowed in earlier around 2:15. Students are picked up directly in the classroom. Please make sure to keep the hallways cleared to prevent any traffic and congestion!
Have a wonderful weekend! Enjoy the pictures of our first two days below!
