Since the first day of school, the classroom was quite bare. Someone said it’s nice to see a class in the beginning of the year since it’s so naked and as time progresses; the class slowly evolves and gets filled with the work of our students. As we start to get into the daily routine, things start to become unraveled. New centers and new ideas get introduced and our class becomes more lively.
This is the first of four self-portraits our students will draw to see and compare their growth throughout the school year. These portraits will make up our Hand Drawn Selfies board. Our next contribution will be in December.
The class calendar has also been brought out. There’s a disagreement about its use in the pre-K setting but I strongly believe it’s a great tool for our kids to be introduced to the concept of time. They transition from one thing to another based on time. The calendar, the days of the week, the months of the year and the dates all serve a purpose. They help build understanding of important days, such as birthdays and holidays, days where we are in school and days we have a break. We introduced the calendar as a connection to the important date for our kids…their birthday.
